The New Revolution of Beauty.

For a long time beauty has been a one-sided figure. One must look a certain way to be considered beautiful. We turn on the tv and the same girl is on it, we flip through magazines and then again we stare at the same girl. But why this same girl? When there are so many other different types of girls out here. Or are we not what society deems as "beautiful"?

The beauty complex is something that most colored girls have faced through out their lives.  I can not count how many times I have been told " if you were lighter you would be so much more beautiful" or how many arguments I have had with a friend because I told them that they have beautiful chocolate skin and they get offended by denying it and saying that they are lighter than me.Why this stigma? Who put it in us? Who wrote the standards?
There has been a new girl on the block of recent. Her name? Lupita Nyong'o. A young lady from Kenya who played the role of Patsy in the movie "12 Years A Slave".  There has been so much craze about her, she has been such a symbol of "beauty", and everyone watches to see what she does next. For the first time ever, beauty has a different color. It's standard has changed. It is no longer the pale   skinned girl with the long locks, it is now the dark skinned girl with the low cut.  What a jump! This beautiful lady with an entirely different look from what you see in the mainstream media has single handedly shocked everyone with her simplicity and opened the eyes of people by showing them that beauty has many faces is commendable.

Listen to Lupita's ground breaking speech at the Black Beauty Essence Magazine Black Women In Hollywood Award.
